The “Noosfera Foundation” is committed to documentaries, film screenings and training initiatives for filmmakers or media professionals. In addition we work on advocating and promoting human rights and social rights in Georgia. We organize screenings and discussions in Tbilisi and Georgia’s regions, in partnerships with major civil society organisations. Our projects are funded by international and national donors (European Union, Amnesty International/Movies that Matter, IDFA Bertha Fund, Reserve Fund of the President of Georgia, Tbilisi City Hall, Ministry of Culture, Georgian National Film Centre, Open Society Foundation Georgia and many more.
The “Noosfera Foundation” organizes every year a film festival in Tbilisi: CinéDOC-Tbilisi Documentary Film Festival– the first international film festival in the South of Caucasus that focuses on creative documentary. In 2016 the festival has introduced a new section: CivilDOC, dedicated to human rights and social rights. Moreover, we organize a CivilPitch during which civil society organisations present their projects to media professionals and potential donors.
We organize also workshops for film professionals. From storytelling to new TV-formats, we work on innovative training initiatives bringing the best international experts to our participants. DocStories Black Sea was our first training initiative for documentary filmmakers from the Black Sea region. The workshop received the support of the European Union (Media Mundus Programme) and was implemented in partnership with IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam).
We also try to build a strong regional identity in the Southern Caucasus, based on a unique film culture, on a common history and on similar cultural values. One of our projects, Cinemobile Caucasus, was a travelling film festival through Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, during which we screened and discussed films from the region in more than 40 cities.
Last but not least, we focus on children and youth projects, organizing events like Ciné-DOC Young – screening films dealing with topics important for the development of youngsters. We run campaigns in schools and cooperate with teachers and pupils who do artworks, write essays and express themselves in a creative way about the topics of the films. The discussions after the screenings are moderated by children psychologists, teachers and young civil society activists. We actively involve children and youngsters in the organization of the projects.
